ABOUT ME

PHOTOGRAPHER

Veronica Slavin

Welcome and thank you for coming to my page!

I've been a photographer for most of my adult life. I was born and raised in Santa Barbara and now reside in Ventura, California.

I always loved to draw and create art as a kid . When I was sixteen, I came across a magazine article that showed the photographer Annie Leibovitz photographing Elton John. I was a huge Elton John fan and was floored that a person could make a living as a photographer. It was then I set my goal and shared it with my Mom. She decided that I could go to a well known photography school and bought me my first camera. Circumstances changed quickly when she passed away shorty after I graduated high school. To make a living, I took a well paying retail job while attending Santa Barbara City College. There. I studied Business and Marketing, but I would walk up the hill on campus that now houses the Garvin theater, while dreaming of myself photographing people. I didn't know how to translate my photography to a career. I would use my photography skills even while working at Vons. They had a need for someone to photograph grand openings and visits from local dignitaries so I became a regular contributor to their in house magazine, "Crax N' Fax." My first real paycheck as a photographer was from
Surfer Magazine. During that time I became co-owner of two retail surf shops and a surfboard factory, but that was not my passion. I began photographing weddings and and events to support my family. Eventually shooting high volume for a large portrait studio. My love for capturing people within their environments is still my favorite today.

I have over forty years experience as a photographer and realize that clients hire me not only for my technical ability, but also for my creative input as well. I also use my experience in retail and working with large groups of people and to organize an efficient photography experience.

After many years as a wedding photography, I've settled into portrait, corporate work and marketing. I am proficient at studio lighting as well as available lighting situations.

Many clients seek me out to take their head shot photos, but we end up creating a gallery they can use for their websites and social media.

You can read more about me and what I do in an interview that I did for VoyageLA.

FAQS

What is your photography style?

With 30+ years shooting film, I like to keep my subject looking timeless and classic. Sometime a client or product will require retouching to create a certain look, but my goal is to create images that look great right out of the camera, with a few tweeks of course ;)

How do you handle different lighting conditions?

I am experienced in working with a variety of lighting situations, from bright outdoor settings to dimly lit indoor venues. I use a combination of professional equipment and techniques to adapt to each scenario, ensuring that I capture the best possible shots while maintaining the desired mood and ambiance. Locations can change depending on the time of day as well as weather conditions. My years of on the spot decisions of lighting have come in handy to save the client time and money.

What's the process for booking a photography session?

Booking a photography session is a straightforward process. Simply get in touch with me through the contact form on my website or give me a call. We'll discuss your photography needs, preferred date, location, and any specific ideas you have in mind. Once we decide the details, I'll provide you with a quote. Upon agreement, a deposit will secure your booking, and we can start planning for your memorable photography experience. Reach out if you have any questions! Sometimes a quick phone call or meet up can assure us both that we are a good fit!

TESTIMONIALS

I absolutely LOVED having Veronica Slavin as our photographer. She and her partner are so professional, kind, and funny, and they make you feel comfortable immediately. So many of my relatives expressed worry about the pictures not turning out because the backdrop was so bright at the beach ceremony, but as you can see they are wizards with lighting, inside and outside! Could not have asked for better photographers, and they got us these proofs within 12 hours despite promising us proofs in 48 hours. The rest of our photos will be coming in about four weeks so I'll update with more when I get them!

The photos they take are stunning and worth every penny. Thanks for a wonderful wedding day!
